Xiaomi Trolls OnePlus By Distributing Free Calculators Outside OnePlus 6T Launch Venue in India

Fight between brands isn't rare. Every segment has its rivalry circle that goes over boundaries at times. The world of tech is not away from this competition-inducing fight circle as well. The two of the prominent smartphone brands recently locked horns. Yesterday, Xiaomi trolled OnePlus before the launch event of the latter's latest flagship. The company distributed calculators to the fans outside the venue of OnePlus 6T launch event, asking them to 'do the math' which was intended for comparing the Xiaomi Poco F1 with the OnePlus 6T.
From Calculator Distribution to Hoardings, Xiaomi Went Brutal
We will be mincing words if we do not call this a brutal trolling gag by Xiaomi.

The entire campaign was based on 'Do the Math' slogan, which we think was intended at the value for money aspect that was Xiaomi's hook line for the Poco F1 - affordable flagship with Snapdragon 845 SoC (review). The brand broke the barriers yesterday, which we may not perceive as ethical or as good as gatecrashing. Xiaomi went all in with the trolling; it thought it through and had set up hoarding even on the route to the event venue, yesterday. And then came the calculator distribution part.
We wonder what OnePlus must be planning now. Will they get back at Xiaomi for this? If they do, we will be at the entertainment side of the things. Reminds us of how Coca-Cola and Pepsi have been gracefully trolling each other from times immemorable. Maybe, OnePlus and Xiaomi can make it their thing to troll each other at the launch events.
That being said, this is not the first time when smartphone OEMs have taken the smartphone game to a different level. Last month, Huawei trolled Apple by distributing power banks to customers outside Apple Stores. The company mocked Apple's latest iPhones for their small battery capacities. We see this as a new wave of trolling by smartphone makers. And we say, keep it coming!
Comparing the OnePlus 6T with the Poco F1, Finding The Big Deal
Starting with the pricing, the OnePlus 6T is launched at INR 37,999 while the Poco F1 starts at INR 20,999. Both the phones are powered by Snapdragon 845 SoC, which acted as one of the major factors in Xiaomi's troll gig. Another point is the lack of 3.5mm audio jack on the 6T while the Poco F1 flaunts it. And then there is the In-display fingerprint sensor on the 6T that gives it an edge while the Poco F1 has a physical fingerprint scanner at the back. Both the phones have the Face Unlock feature.
The Poco F1 features a 6.18-inch full HD+ display while the OnePlus 6T comes with a 6.41-inch Optic AMOLED full HD+ display bearing 1080×2340 pixel resolution. Both the phones have a notched display, but the OnePlus 6T has a teardrop notch that makes it a better looking among the two. Design-wise too, the OnePlus 6T is quite a looker with a glass back. This is where the OnePlus 6T justifies its pricing with the premium AMOLED panel while the Poco F1 settles for an LCD panel to keep the pricing under control.
For optics, the Poco F1 features a 12MP+5MP dual camera setup at the rear and a 20MP selfie snapper on the front. The OnePlus 6T, on the contrary, sports a 16MP+20MP dual camera setup and a 16MP front camera. It is commendable that the Poco F1 matches up to OnePlus 6T in the front camera specification. Coming to the battery capacity, the Poco F1 is backed by a 4000mAh battery with QuickCharge 3.0 support while the OnePlus 6T has a 3700mAh battery with support for 5V 4A fast charging.
We think both the phones have their own set of advantages and disadvantages. While we have reviewed the Poco F1, we are yet to review the OnePlus 6T. Once we do that, we will be able to come up with a legit comparison between the two.
